How to invest in the Ghana Stock Exchange
How do you invest in the Ghana Stock Exchange?
The Ghana Stock Exchange is the market for listed shares in Ghana. A purchase goes through a Licensed Dealing Member. You do not invest by sending money to the exchange itself, and Yanci does not take the order. The step-by-step version is How to buy shares in Ghana, and the sourced guide is How to buy shares on the Ghana Stock Exchange.
What are you investing in?
A listed share is a piece of a company. What is a stock? explains what that does and does not mean. Some companies pay a dividend. Many do not, and a dividend can be skipped. A share price can fall.
A treasury bill is not a share on the exchange. What is a T-bill in Ghana? covers that instrument. This lesson does not quote a bill rate.
What should you read before an order?
Know what the company sells and who pays it. Know the business you invest in is the checklist. The company pages on this site show figures from Ghana Stock Exchange filings. They are for learning. They are not a list of shares to buy.
Where do these facts come from?
- Ghana Stock Exchange for what the market is and who the dealing members are.
- Yanci's guide for the account and the order.
Examples of listed companies, not suggestions: MTN Ghana (MTNGH) and GCB Bank (GCB). Today on the GSE shows prices for the wider list.
Figures and rules linked from the Ghana Stock Exchange or the SEC were the pages used when this lesson was last updated on 20 October 2026. Open those pages for the current wording.
Frequently asked questions
How do you invest in the Ghana Stock Exchange?
For listed shares, open a securities account with a Licensed Dealing Member and place an order through that broker. The exchange is where those shares are traded. It is not a shop you visit.
Is the exchange only for shares?
This lesson is about listed shares. A treasury bill is a different instrument. The T-bill lesson explains that one.
Does Yanci recommend a stock?
No. Kofi explains the route onto the exchange. He does not name a share to buy or sell.
Not financial advice. Kofi is a teacher, not an adviser. He explains how investing works. He does not recommend what to buy, sell or hold.
Kofi will keep teaching in the app.
