Change since last week and a 12-week chart

The saved snapshot holds one tender only. The change from the previous tender is not in the file, so this page does not print a change. A 12-week history is not saved either, so this page does not draw that chart. When an older tender is stored, it can be added here without inventing the missing weeks.

Discount rate vs interest rate, explained by Kofi

You usually buy a treasury bill for less than its face value. The discount rate is the rate used to set that lower price. The interest rate on the same row is an annualised way of describing the same bill. It is not a second, higher offer.

For this tender the 91-day discount rate is 4.5609% and the interest rate printed beside it is 4.6135%. The interest rate is what you get by turning the discount rate into an annualised figure on a 364-day year. That is a check, not a second auction.

For a bill that runs the full 364 days, the annualised interest rate and the holding-period gain can match. For 91 days or 182 days they do not. The GH₵1,000 table uses the discount rate for the number of days in the tenor.

What GH₵1,000 would earn

Illustrative only. The table uses GH₵1000 and this auction's discount rate. Fees, tax, and the price a bank or broker actually offers are not included. It is not a quote and not a reason to buy.

TenorEstimate
91-dayEstimate: GH₵1,000.00 at the 91-day discount rate of 4.5609 becomes GH₵1,011.53 after 91 days. The difference is GH₵11.53, about 1.1534% for the tenor, not per year. The Bank of Ghana interest rate printed for this tenor is 4.6135. That figure is annualised. It is not the gain above. This uses a 364-day year, which turns this tenor’s discount rate into the interest rate printed beside it. The estimate ignores fees, tax, and the price a bank or broker actually offers. It is not a quote.
182-dayEstimate: GH₵1,000.00 at the 182-day discount rate of 6.1009 becomes GH₵1,031.46 after 182 days. The difference is GH₵31.46, about 3.1464% for the tenor, not per year. The Bank of Ghana interest rate printed for this tenor is 6.2929. That figure is annualised. It is not the gain above. This uses a 364-day year, which turns this tenor’s discount rate into the interest rate printed beside it. The estimate ignores fees, tax, and the price a bank or broker actually offers. It is not a quote.
364-dayEstimate: GH₵1,000.00 at the 364-day discount rate of 8.8206 becomes GH₵1,096.74 after 364 days. The difference is GH₵96.74, about 9.6739% for the 364 days. That percent is the annualised interest rate, because this bill runs for the full 364-day year. The Bank of Ghana interest rate printed for this tenor is 9.6739. For this tenor that is the same percent as the gain above. This uses a 364-day year, which turns this tenor’s discount rate into the interest rate printed beside it. The estimate ignores fees, tax, and the price a bank or broker actually offers. It is not a quote.

Who can buy

People who bank or use a broker in Ghana can ask that institution which tenors it sells and what it charges. This page does not list a minimum, because a minimum that is not copied from the provider would be invented.

The Ghana Stock Exchange rules page says, as of 1 November 2026, that non-resident foreign investors may only hold debt securities of 2 years or longer. A 91-day, 182-day or 364-day bill is shorter than that, so it is not available to that group. Whether the same limit applies to a Ghanaian citizen living abroad depends on residency. Yanci is still confirming that. It is not settled on this page. The longer note is How to invest in Ghana from the US or UK.

How to buy

The channels, what happens at maturity, and selling early are in How to buy treasury bills in Ghana. That lesson does not rank a bank, an app, or a broker. Today's stock market is a different page.

Frequently asked questions

Why are there two rates?

The discount rate is the rate that sets the price below face value. The interest rate is the annualised figure the Bank of Ghana prints beside it. A 364-day year is what turns the discount rate into that interest rate. For a 91-day or 182-day bill, the interest rate is not the gain for the holding period.

Are T-bill earnings taxed?

This page has not copied a Ghana Revenue Authority rate for treasury bill earnings, so it does not print one. The GH₵1,000 figure ignores tax. Ask the institution that sells the bill, or a tax adviser.

Can I sell before maturity (rediscount)?

Some institutions will buy a bill back before it matures. That is often called rediscounting. Their price can be less than the face value you would receive at maturity. This page does not quote a rediscount rate.

Can I buy from abroad?

Non-resident foreign investors may only hold bonds and bills of 2 years or longer, so 91-day, 182-day and 364-day bills are not available to that group. Whether a Ghanaian citizen living abroad is in that group depends on residency. Yanci is still confirming it.
