How to invest in Ghana from the United States
Read the residency limit
The Ghana Stock Exchange rules page says, as of 1 November 2026, that non-resident foreign investors may only hold debt securities of 2 years or longer. 91-day, 182-day and 364-day treasury bills are shorter than that. Whether a Ghanaian citizen living in the United States is in that group depends on residency. Yanci is still confirming it. The shared guide is How to invest in Ghana from the US or UK.
Open the account through a licensed broker
Use the Ghana Stock Exchange list and the SEC broker-dealer list. Ask what they accept from a US address. The share-buying steps are in How to buy shares on the Ghana Stock Exchange. Company pages and today's market are for reading.
This page does not say a Ghana bank account is required. Ask the broker how they take a payment that starts in the United States, and what the conversion into cedis will cost. This page does not name a transfer service.
Ask a tax professional about Form 1040 and Form 1116
As of 1 November 2026, Ghana does not appear on the IRS list of United States income tax treaties. US taxpayers often report income on Form 1040 and look at Form 1116 for a foreign tax credit. That description is not advice, and it is not a filled-in form. Speak to a tax professional before you rely on it. Dividends says this site has not copied a current Ghana withholding rate.

Frequently asked questions
Can I buy treasury bills from the United States?
Non-resident foreign investors may only hold bonds and bills of 2 years or longer. 91-day, 182-day and 364-day bills are shorter than that. Whether a Ghanaian citizen living in the US falls under that rule depends on residency, and Yanci is still confirming it.
Is there a US–Ghana tax treaty?
This page cannot cite one. Form 1116 is the US foreign-tax-credit form many people attach to Form 1040. Speak to a tax professional before you rely on that.
