Getting started
How to Start Investing in Ghana: A Beginner's Map
Before you invest
An emergency fund is money you can reach without selling an investment. How many months of expenses that should be is your decision, not a figure this page invents. If you do not have cash you can spend on a surprise bill, learn the products before you fund them.
Write down the amount you could leave invested if the price fell and you still had to wait. If that amount is zero, the next step is the lesson, not a transfer.
The building blocks
Three products come up again and again. They are not steps you must take in order, and they are not ranked.
- Treasury bills. You lend to the Government of Ghana for 91, 182 or 364 days. The weekly rates are the saved auction, with a GH₵1,000 illustration.
- Mutual funds. You own units in a pool. The manager holds the securities. Check the fund on the SEC list.
- Shares. You own part of a listed company, through a licensed broker. The price moves. A dividend is optional.
Company pages show filing figures with each period. Today's market is the price list. Neither one is a shopping list.
Risk vs time
A treasury bill has an end date. A share does not. A fund sits in between, and the factsheet says how. A longer time does not remove the chance of loss. It changes which products you are able to wait out. If you need the money on a known date, say that to the broker or the fund manager before you send it.
Spotting scams
The Securities and Exchange Commission publishes licensed firms and licensed mutual funds, and it publishes notices on sec.gov.gh. If someone promises a guaranteed return, or asks you to skip the licensed list, stop and read those pages. This lesson does not name a scheme. A name that is missing here is not an endorsement and not an accusation.

Frequently asked questions
What should a beginner buy first?
This page does not answer that. It shows bills, funds and shares, and it says to keep cash you may need. The choice is yours, with a licensed firm if you go ahead.
Is the amount on the homepage enough?
Yanci's waitlist copy says the product is aiming for a small starting amount, and that the final amount will be confirmed before launch. A broker or a fund can set a different minimum. Ask them. Do not treat the waitlist figure as their rule.
Where do people living abroad start?
On How to invest in Ghana from the US or UK. Eligibility depends on residency and is still being confirmed.
